Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What kind of logs do we use?

A: Minnesota Red Pine (Norway Pine)

Q: Are log homes energy efficient?

A: Yes, we use full round logs scribed with a Swedish cope. The thermal mass of the log gives the home the ability to    store heat, thus making it warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Q: How does the cost compare to a conventional home?

A: We can construct a log home for approximately the same price as a conventional home.

Q: What about settling of a log home?

A: The hand scribed log home uses green logs and yes, we do have to allow for settling. Our 7" and 9" milled logs are pre-dried to 18% so there is little settling.

Q: What is put on the exterior of log homes and do they require a lot of maintenance?

A: We recommend a preservative be applied every four to five years depending on the sunshine, elements and brand used. There are a number of good products available; we will help you choose the one best suited to your preferences.

Q: What is put on the interior?

A: Polyurethane varnish or stain.

Q: How is the electrical installed?

A: During construction your logs will be drilled for wiring so all wiring is inside the log.

Q: Can I do all/some of the work myself?

A: We will do as much or as little as you wish.
